Hessonite Garnet is a distinct and attractive variety of the grossular garnet species, best known for its warm, honey-like colors that range from golden-yellow to rich cinnamon and reddish-orange. Often referred to as the “cinnamon stone,” hessonite garnet is prized for its warm glow and vitreous luster. It is typically found in Sri Lanka, India, and parts of Africa and is commonly used in both fine and traditional jewelry.
Fun fact: In Vedic astrology, hessonite is associated with the planet Rahu and is believed to bring clarity, success, and protection from negative influences. Its name comes from the Greek word hēssōn, meaning “inferior,” a reference to its lower density compared to other garnets—though in beauty and symbolism, it is anything but.
